This is the first month of my Totally Useless Membership for TU SAL, and I’m already late on my first post. But, here is my TU SAL đ
I have started working on the Rocket Ship in the piece for the baby. I’ve stitched the purple, blue, and green, and started the red. For the red, I added a sparkly border in Krienik metallics.
I started to work the green window port in the buttonhole stitch, but ripped it out when I realized my thread was too short. Any suggestions on how to change threads in the middle of this stitch? If it doesn’t work, I’ll have to switch to another stitch because I have precut all of my floss to the same length. Whoops!
I’m still fighting a cold, so – off to go spend the evening stitching!
To tie off one thread and start another while doing buttonhole is fiddly but you can do it. Make the loop part of the stitch that makes an L shape with the old thread, then use the new thread to come up through the old and start the new stitch. Stop and park the new thread and needle, and tie off the old stitch on the back. Then pick up the new needle and keep going until you run out again.
I use buttonhole stitch for edging glasses cases and since I rarely use more than 18 inches of thread, I have to tie off and start a new length a lot. This is the easiest way I’ve found.
Good luck!
Hi Mick,
Either stitch around it and add the button hole stitch in later or pick another stitch, that’s what I would do. đ
I’m sure whatever you decide to do would be fine. đ

Thanks for the buttonhole tips! Although I decided not to use the stitch in this piece, I’m sure I’ll use it again in the future.
